The 'IMPaCT Cohort' project is a prospective, multipurpose, and multicenter population-based cohort study.
The main features of the IMPaCT Cohort are as follows:
Large size, approximately 200,000 individuals, and a recruitment strategy that allows for proportional representation of Spanish geographical variability and diversity, prioritizing feasibility, logistical criteria, and long-term retention.
Prospective follow-up of each participant through a combination of passive and active methods, including electronic linkage of records, enabling repeated and direct contacts with each participant.
Intensive use of Information and Communication Technologies (ICTs), , according to each participant's capabilities, for personal contact, communication, data collection (e.g., recording physical activity and sleep), and tracking (e.g., smartphones, tablets, and the internet).
Inclusion of a detailed standardized physical examination and collection of an extensive array of biological samples, properly stored in a state-of-the-art biobank.
Frequent periodic contacts, at least every 2 years, with each participant according to a set schedule, including electronic means of contact. This schedule involves periodic physical examinations and updated collection of biological samples (every 5 years). All periodic visits during the follow-up will allow updating information on relevant exposures and also identifying the emergence of new health conditions and diseases.
